About AVID

AVID in General

AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. AVID is a college and career readiness system designed to explicitly teach students the skills they will need to be prepared for life after high school. Through this work, student develop confidence, leadership skills, and are exposed to career and college opportunities beyond the brick and mortar classroom. AVID believes that all kids can leave the K-12 system with skills and proficiencies for success in life beyond high school.

AVID in Middle School

In middle school, AVID's work is to build a foundational understanding of learning strategies we know work with all students. Cornell Notes, Tutorial Study Groups, Binder Checks, and Grade Checks are four core strategies students learn and develop skills around throughout their time in middle school. The goal is for students to enter high school with these core strategies mastered so that when the content and expectations of their general education and advanced classes get harder, they're ready for the challenge.

AVID at Angevine

The AVID program at Angevine is Highly Certified according to the AVID's National Standards. We have two elective classes that 7th and 8th graders can apply to take during the school day- the instruction in these classes focuses on the strategies and skills specific to the national middle school curriculum. In addition to learning student success skills, students in the AVID elective class engage with college students at the Colorado University at Boulder, and attend enrichment field trips throughout the year.  All students at Angevine continue to use the foundational AVID strategies in all of their content classes because at Angevine we want all students to enter high school on a college and career readiness track.
